Okay so I have tweaked the oft-repeated phrase a bit. But, all for good effect. At NILF every year, one of the biggest draws has always been the country sessions. It is an opportunity for the participants to understand and gauge the potential of all these visiting nations in terms of trade and likewise for the countries to seek out their prospective associates. Let us take a sneak preview on what we have in store this year.

Colombia session title: Colombia, your Gateway to the Spanish Speaking IT Services Market

Day: Tuesday 8th February 2011

The South American country has been at the forefront of change in the last 8 years. Coming from a period of strife, when few believed in the nation’s future coupled with the scarcity of positive news, today Colombia is included in the HSBC Bank group of emerging countries that will follow the economic growth path of BRICs in the second decade of the XXI century, CIVETS. This year Colombia will showcase at the NASSCOM Leadership Forum, the businesses opportunities in the IT sector and how companies can leverage this. The Country Session will have the participation of three outstanding speakers: Colombia’s Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Mr Carlos De Hart, who will open the Session and explain the policies and incentives that the Government has developed for companies followed by Avinash Vashistha, Chairman& CEO of Tholons, who will detail out, why the country is Latin America’s outsourcing hidden jewel. Finally, Mr Pramod Bhasin, Genpact’s CEO will share his experience of doing business in Colombia  and deliberate on the factors that he considers are Colombia’s strengths .

Poland session title: Exploring Eastern Europe with Poland

Poland is a perfect place for investment and business expansion. According to Eurostat, Poland expects the 3rd biggest GDP growth rate in Europe in 2010 (3.5%). Up to now many international corporations such as Accenture, Acxiom, Arvato Services, Atos Origin, Cap Gemini, Citi Group, Compuware, Credit Suisse, First Data Corporation, Fujitsu, Google, HP, IBM, Intel, KPMG, McKinsey, Motorola, Philip Morris, Lucent Technologies, Samsung, Shell, State Street Corporation, Thomson Reuters and Volvo had decided to establish their centers in Poland. The Indian companies have also significant share among the existing ITeS centers in Poland: Genpact, Infosys, KPIT, Wipro, HCL, Irevna, Intelnet Global and Zensar have already opened their centers in Poland. Still, there are many opportunities for the next Indian companies representing ITeS sector.

Germany session title:  Exploring the largest non-English market for Indian IT

The country session featuring Germany will be organised by BITKOM (German IT apex body) and NASSCOM. Annually, the two bodies cooperate closely and organise a series of conferences and know-how sessions. This year the country session will focus on Germany as a market for Indian IT companies and also on the German IT market as a whole. Dr. Beckmann (Executive Board and General Partner of German pharma giant Merck effective April 1, 2011) will participate in a panel discussion on India/Germany and the IT market and shed light on the IT requirements of a large German pharma/life science player. South Africa session title: South Africa – The Gateway to Africa

The BPO sector in South Africa is rife with opportunities with the domestic BPO industry employing 200,000 people across different industries. The country has also become a key BPO destination for the UK market. South Africa’s offshore BPO industry is growing at more than 40% each year, and has witnessed the entry of several leading global companies in the last 24 months. The government has approved new incentive package for the offshore BPO industry which results in a further reduction in operating costs by 15-20%.

Outsourcing service providers are increasingly looking at expanding their footprint and the MENA region has emerged as a very viable gateway and a largely untapped market. According to IDC, for 2010 while the global growth in IT is expected to be around 3%, it would be over 12% for the GCC region. The regional IT services demand is estimated at USD 3.5 billion with Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar making up 75 percent. According to another report only about 52% of all GCC companies have adopted some aspect of ITO or BPO.
